Google now offers FREE directory assistance service.
What a life saver this will be for my Dad. My dad is a mega-tightwad who hates digging around for the phone book. He’d call directory assistance 20+ times a day if he wasn’t so cheap. Currently half of his monthly phone bill goes to directory assistance charges.
He will get his new bill in the mail and promptly freak out over the fees he was charged for 411 calls the previous month. Then in an attempt to lower his phone bill cost he will make a vow to call me on a never ending cycle to “Google” the numbers he needs instead of paying for the operator to look them up. He tries his best to stick with it too! Daddy-o will call me a million times for this number or that number by the second week of the new month he is so getting on my nerves that I stop answering the phone. He then falls back into the old cycle of dialing 411 and we rinse later repeat the process again next month.

My parents are the same way & I steared them towards 1-800-411-SAVE. The reason I like this service over the Google service is that my parents don’t have to argue with an automated machine to get their information. If your dad is anything like mine, he’ll hate speaking to a machine, even if it is free. I would have your dad try 1-800-411-SAVE, its free and he’ll talk to an agent almost immediatly. They offer busines, residential, and government listings for free with a free call connection.

Your right about that Lauren. I asked for driving directions, the operator was so nice, he even stayed on the line until i get to my destination, we’re on the phone for 18 minutes. Its great, i didn’t get lost.
