I’ve never been a fan of AOL & the list of reasons just keeps getting longer..
So here I am tonight finally feeling a bit better from the headache that has kicked my butt all day long. It’s 10:30 at night bored out of my gourd so why not kill a little time. I venture over to read a few of my fave funny crap type blogs and out of no where I’m assaulted. Yeah that’s right assaulted by a pop up window from my system tray I’ve never noticed before spoiling my reading boring shit laughter.
I’m informed by this new found pop up that my Viewpoint Media Player has now been updated successfully, simply click update and all is well. Pfft yeah right I hit google to do a search and find several articles about it. One after another I find out that it’s some crap bundled with AOL instant messenger. While I’ve never allowed AOL to be placed on my box I did install the messenger for a friend of mine that uses it to keep in touch with her. So yay this just confirms my theory on AOL being a heaping pile of crap which furthers itself by pissing me off and praying on poor net newbies who don’t know better than to not use it.
It was a simple fix killed the running process viewmgr.exe then hit control panel to remove it from add & remove programs. That was it all gone course I ran a registry sweep and cleared out any crap in there. Also went into program folder and deleted the viewmanager.exe file from my AOL folder. What I’m pissed about is doesn’t AOL poison enough brains with the crappy ads and mailers they send out? Why add insult to injury to further prove they are a flaming POS by adding this kind of crap to their install packs? The world may never know..
Although my son loves collecting the AOL cds sent in the mail. He uses them for target practice. A little beam of light shines ever so bright in my eyes when I watch the joy spread over his 10yr old face when his .3030 finds the bright shining disc in the air.
